I've had some questions from workshop members about what to practice now after the workshop. I'll use Little Sunflower as an example.
1. Continue singing Miles' solo on Freddie the Freeloader
http://youtu.be/RPfFhfSuUZ4
2. Sing and play the melody to Little Sunflower
http://youtu.be/OtB8dEuEmNM
3. Listen and sing bass notes
4. Listen to the form of this song.
Form is AABA
4 phrases each 8 measures
A - 8 measures
A - 8 measures
B - 8 measures
A - 8 measures
5. We know already from the workshop, there are only 3 chords in this song
A section is d minor
B section is Eb major7 and D major7
6. It's important now to learn the chord tones and the scales for each chord
See worksheet
7. We can create some exercises to help us learn these chords/scales more deeply.
See worksheet
8. Improvise with the recording.
9. Each day just PLAY. Improvise. Don't worry about mistakes. Don't worry what anyone thinks. And especially, don't YOU think. No thinking....just play.
10. Is it possible for you to play and improvise with one or more other players?
